As the Chicago Historical Society and the Newberry Library began work on the Encyclopedia of Chicago, they realized that the form of the encyclopedia - with its emphasis on multiple pathways through a complex body of knowledge - resembled the structure of the Web. Academic Technologies was employed to design and implement the online version of the encyclopedia, with NUAMPS focusing on user interface, content design, and multimedia production as well as the overall appearance of the site.
