Worldwide recognition–and a 20GB iPod–await the winner of the second
annual MediaWorks Promo Contest, sponsored by Northwestern University
Information Technology (NUIT) Academic Technologies. The contest,
designed to raise campus awareness of the MediaWorks lab and the
technologies it makes available for student media production, is open
to all Northwestern students.
How to Enter
Student filmmakers are asked to submit a 30–second commercial spot for
MediaWorks, using the lab itself for some aspect of production or
post–production. The MediaWorks logo (which can be downloaded from the
contest Web site) must be incorporated in some way.
“We encourage students to promote MediaWorks in any way they see fit,”
said Harlan Wallach, media services architect for NUIT Academic
Technologies. “There are no creative restrictions. We’re also looking
for strength of production and overall effectiveness.”
Contest details are available at mediaworks.it.northwestern.edu/contest/. Entries are due no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 8 at the MediaWorks drop box on the lower level of University Library.
Flicker Film Festival
The top three winning entries will be screened May 6, 7 and 8 at the
Northwestern University Flicker Film Festival, one of the largest
intercollegiate student festivals in the country. Created in 1996 by
Flicker, a non–profit student–run organization that supports and
promotes student filmmaking, the festival has gained national renown
and receives entries from around the world.
For the second year, NUIT Academic Technologies and the students behind
the Flicker Film Festival are teaming up to celebrate the cinematic
achievements of student filmmakers. Three iPods will be awarded during
the Festival: one to the first–place MediaWorks contest winner, one for
Best Animation, and one for the newly created “Academic Technologies
Outstanding Achievement in Sound Award” category.
NUIT Academic Technologies will Webcast all of the film and
video presentations of the entire Flicker Film Festival. To access the
Webcast next month, visit the festival Web site at groups.northwestern.edu/flicker/.
