An animated version of the MediaWorks logo earned top honors in the second annual MediaWorks Promo Contest sponsored by Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT). School of Communication senior Quinn Stephens won a 20Gb Apple iPod digital music player for his 30-second promotional video, “The More Robust of the Two.”

Digitally Preserving China’s Relics

Some of the most advanced imaging technology available is being used to photograph and help preserve a unique and historically significant Buddhist temple near Xi’an, China. In a major collaborative effort, media experts and software development specialists from Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) are working with the Shaanxi Provincial Wenwujiu (cultural relics bureau) to completely document the interior of the Shuilu’an Temple in high–resolution digital imagery.

Northwestern University Advanced Media Production Studio (NUAMPS), a division of NUIT Academic Technologies, will record three School of Music opera productions in High Definition Video (HDV) each year. Following a trial collaboration last spring to record The Magic Flute, directed by Professor Noel Koran, NUAMPS will again work with Professor Koran on Threepenny Opera, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s epic opera portraying the shadowy side of 1928 London.

Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) is now making original video content available for anyone with Apple’s newly released video-capable iPod. In keeping with their goal to advance multimedia applications in teaching and research on campus, Northwestern University Advanced Media Production Studio (NUAMPS), a unit of NUIT Academic Technologies (AT), has quickly responded to the improved functions of the iPod by converting a selection of their premiere video presentations to the new Quick Time MPEG4 (.m4v) format and making them available online.

On May 31, 2006, Joe Levy (Kellogg, '47) was presented the Kellogg Alumni Master Entrepreneur Award for his support of entrepreneurial practice at Kellogg. Levy, chairman of Levy Venture Management, car dealership entrepreneur, and a founding director of Computer Discount Warehouse, has clearly illustrated his commitment to the entrepreneurial spirit by facilitating a long-running weekly meeting of entrepreneurs as well as through his contributions to Kellogg. Levy has played a major role in Kellogg’s development with gifts such as the endowment for the Joseph and Carole Levy Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship chair. NUAMPS helped celebrate the event with a twelve-minute documentary tribute to Mr. Levy’s accomplishments as emotionally narrated by those who know him well. Kellogg faculty, staff, and alumni joined with fellow entrepreneurs in expressing their admiration in Levy’s strong principals and compassion.
